Deskzilla 1.2 Is Released

Today we are glad to announce the release of Deskzilla 1.2, a desktop client for Bugzillaâ„¢ bug tracking system. Deskzilla delivers features for greater productivity and improved working environment for Bugzilla users.

The new version has a few long-awaited features, improvements to the existing code, bug fixes and a better appearance. Here's the list of most important changes:

  • Bug collections
A bug collection is like a folder or a label for bugs. You can add a bug to a collection and remove it later. A bug collection behaves like a query - you can "run" it, or filter it with sub-queries or distributions. By default there's only one collection - "Favorites", but it's possible to create as many as needed.
  • Quick search within a scope (#202)
This feature allows to search for text within currently selected queries. It also makes possible to define and quickly select "scopes" - a collection of queries to search within.
  • Open a bug by URL
You can paste a URL into the quick search box and Deskzilla will search for the corresponding bug. If necessary, Deskzilla will automatically create a connection with default settings and fetch the bug record from server.
  • Multiple selection in bugs table and bulk workflow actions
It's now possible to select several bugs in the bugs table. A workflow action will be applied to all bugs that have been selected. Some Deskzilla actions are also able to execute upon a number of bugs (for example, update and commit).
  • Single-click export (available only for Windows-based platforms)
Just press a toolbar button or click Ctrl+E and currently viewed bug table will be quickly exported and opened with in a corresponding application. Export settings that have been used last time will be applied.
  • Support for shared install (#140)
Starting with Deskzilla 1.2, the workplace - a directory with local cache, configuration, logs and other user files - is stored separately from Deskzilla distribution. That allows to share Deskzilla installation, and run it without write access to Deskzilla install directory.
  • Search within comments in query builder (#201)
It's now possible to build a query that will search for a text in bug comments.
  • Sorted distribution elements (#204)
Elements in distribution are now sorted according to their order in Bugzilla.
  • Customizable field names (#61)
Deskzilla now allows to rename fields to match customized field names in your Bugzilla. For instructions, please visit the corresponding knowledge base article.
  • Automatic configuration backup (#198)
Configuration file config.xml contains all queries, connection settings and other stuff usually important for the user. Prior to Deskzilla 1.2, a computer crash would probably have caused a corruption of config file. Starting with version 1.2, Deskzilla periodically makes backup copies of config.xml (stored in "backup" directory under user workspace), so in case of a crash the user shall be able to restore a previously saved configuration.
  • Support for floating licenses
Deskzilla is now able to work with floating or site licenses. We'll start offering them at our web site soon after the release.

Deskzilla 1.2 is now available for download. Everybody is welcome to evaluate the new version. As usual, free 30-days fully-functional trial licenses are available. If you have evaluated a previous version of Deskzilla and the license has expired, please request another license.

If you are using a previous version, upgrade is advised. Upgrade from Deskzilla 1.x versions is free.

Thanks a lot to everyone who contributed feedback to Deskzilla project in form of e-mails, forum postings and error reports! We value all feedback greatly and align our development plan with what Deskzilla users say. Please let us know what you think of Deskzilla!
