The move towards the cloud has been a major trend both for Atlassian and the industry as a whole for many years now. To further accelerate this move, a few weeks ago Atlassian announced that they will stop selling new server licenses for their products and focus on their cloud offerings while providing the Data Center option for those who prefer a self-managed approach. You can find more details about these and other changes in Atlassian's official announcement about the discontinuation of server licenses.
In the meantime, we have prepared a brief summary to help you navigate these changes and make educated decisions. It also provides important information related to our own products — Structure for Jira and other apps.
You don’t have to make a decision overnight — the transition will take more than three years, so you have plenty of time to analyze your requirements and make the right choice.
Starting February 2, 2021, customers will no longer be able to purchase new Jira Server licenses. However, you will still be able to purchase new server licenses for Structure and other apps. You will also be able to renew existing licenses, both for Jira and apps, and upgrade or downgrade your server licenses.
As of February 2, 2022, you won’t be able to upgrade or downgrade user tiers for your server products or apps.
Starting February 2, 2023, you will no longer be able to purchase server licenses for apps, but renewals will still be available.
February 2, 2024 is the end of support for the server version of Atlassian Jira.

There are multiple things you need to keep in mind when migrating from one platform to another, and functionality is definitely on top of that list.
Server and Data Center
For those who choose to move to Data Center, our apps offer the same functionality as the server version, in addition to a number of performance and reliability improvements.
We were one of the first vendors to participate in the Data Center readiness program, and we continue to closely follow all Atlassian requirements and recommendations for performance and scalability testing. We also stay in close contact with the Atlassian Premier Support team, which helps us efficiently resolve any issues that may come up.
We are committed to continued development and top-notch customer support for both our Data Center and server apps, so whether you move to DC or choose to stay on server for a few years, you will continue to enjoy new versions and timely bug fixes.
Cloud
Cloud versions of Structure and Structure.Gantt are already available on the Atlassian Marketplace, and over the past year we have created a robust foundation that will allow us to develop our apps further.
At this time, the difference between our on-prem and cloud offerings is still significant. We will considerably increase our investment in our cloud system to accelerate development and enable faster customer migration. In addition to providing many of the same features available on server, we plan to go a step further by providing benefits that will only be possible on the cloud.
In addition, we're working on migration functionality that integrates with the Atlassian Migration Assistant and will make the move from server/DC to cloud much easier.
Data Center and cloud platforms use subscription licensing, both for Atlassian products and apps. They also have different pricing.
We understand that you might need to adjust your strategy in light of the Atlassian announcement. If the adjusted pricing becomes an issue, we’ll be happy to discuss details with you and will try to find a solution that works.
Our sales team will work out the details with you.
If you’re asking yourself this question, you’re not alone. Ultimately, it’s your choice and we will provide all necessary support regardless of your migration time and direction.
If you were considering migration to Data Center in the near future, it might be worth doing so before the Jira price increase that is coming in February 2021. Feature-wise, your functionality won't change, and the configuration of your Jira projects and apps will be nearly identical.
Migration to cloud, on the other hand, will require a careful review of Jira Cloud's capabilities, as well as a review of potential impacts on the apps you currently use.
You should also keep in mind that both are being actively developed. If you feel something is missing right now, it could already be in the works — you should check development plans, such as the Structure Cloud roadmap, before making any decisions. It might be worth waiting a short while and migrating once all the essential features are available. You can also keep an eye on updates by subscribing to our Structure cloud release notes.
If you do have specific requests for our apps, please don’t hesitate to let us know about them. Customer feedback has a major impact on our backlog prioritization.
We believe that cloud-based systems are the future for enterprise software tools. The enormous benefits of a cloud-based world — lower costs, inter-connectedness, rapid software development, AI-enabled computing, and much more — have spurred innovative solutions to the security and privacy challenges that stood in the way of mass adoption.
We are fully committed to delivering best-in-class products for project managers — now with all the benefits the cloud platform has to offer.
