As a member of the Pledge 1% corporate philanthropy movement, we integrate “giving back” into our company mission. As a company, we pledged:
On August 1st, the ALM Works team gave back to the community by visiting Milford, Massachusetts for a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program with Children Across America (CAA)—a non-profit providing support to underserved families. To assist these children with learning STEM, CAA provides kids from kindergarten to fifth grade with free education programs focusing on everything from the arts to math and sciences. The goal of the STEM program was to teach and work with children from ages 4-6 and 7-9 to help them develop the ability to innovate, be technologically savvy, and better understand how and why things work together.
The 4-6-year-olds were divided into groups to have fun at different STEM stations. Each group went through each station with the assistance of an ALM Works team member. The STEM activities consisted of a monkey balance math game, magnetic wooden fishing game, Jenga, and more. Meanwhile, the 7-9-year-olds worked on individual projects with an ALM Works team member. They used kits to construct a “doodling robot” or “tabletop robot.”
Many thanks to Children Across America! We had tons of fun. We hope the children did, too.
